“Minnetonka Church has recently experienced a faith journey through the outreachof “God’s Closet,” a ministry dedicated to providing free clothing to families in need. This initiative has not only met the practical needs of the community but also opened new avenues for partnerships and personal connections that are enriching the church’s outreach.
One of the most significant developments has been the church’s new partnership with Just Between Friends, an organization that hosts consignment sales for gently used children’s and maternity items. Jeni, who runs Just Between Friends, expressed her gratitude for God’s Closet, as it provides a meaningful destination for the leftover clothing from her sales. This collaboration ensures a continuous supply of quality clothing for God’s Closet and strengthens the network of community support. This was an answer to prayer to the God’s Closet team who were concerned if there would be enough clothing items for their next events.
“We’re so thankful for God’s Closet,” Jenishared. “It’s wonderful to know that all the clothes we have left can find a new home with families who really need them.
“Additionally, the registration process for God’s Closet included a volunteer sign-up option, which has proven to be a fruitful strategy for fostering community involvement. The team was looking for ways to connect more with the families attending the event. The goal was to be more evangelistic in its approach to foster personal friendships and connections beyond the free clothing events. Through this, the church connected with Laurie, a dedicated individual who has become an integral part of the God’s Closet team. Laurie’s enthusiasm and hard work in setting up and organizing events have been invaluable. Her excitement was clear when she received a volunteer t-shirt, symbolizing her commitment and newfound role within the ministry.
Laurie’s dedication has not only bolstered the operational side of God’s Closet but also highlighted the potential for deeper community engagement. Her example is inspiring others and demonstrating how the ministry can serve as a bridge to connect the church with various organizations and individuals. This kind of outreach was previously unimaginable, showcasing the expansive impact of God’s Closet. After the last event, eight more people indicated they also wanted to be part of the volunteer team. Thisis exciting for Minnetonka church leaders as they will look for ways to befriend, involve, and share the love of Jesus with them.
